There are a few things regarding this years route that I can tell you that might give you peace of mind. First off, there will only be one checkpoint, which will be around mile 42. My volunteers and a port-a-pottie will be there waiting. I'll reveal the address of this checkpoint at a later date for those who wish to bail out early and arrange for a ride. The route this year will not directly pass any gas stations/convenience stores. There will be water and snacks available at this checkpoint, but come prepared with the appropriate amount of hydration and fuel to complete this ride self-supported if necessary.
Other things to know on the ride is that there will be approximately 9 miles of pavement over the duration of the course, with no section being more than 3 miles. There will be 4 sections of the route on dirt or grass that might force riders to dismount and walk, depending on what the weather is like leading up to the event. If you rode the first two Grumpy Grinds, you will encounter sections of the ride that you have ridden before, but there will also be new gravel sections in between.
I will be doing my best to supply what I feel are helpful thoughts regarding the upcoming Grumpy Grind. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or thoughts regarding the ride.
